Dear Team:

We have been unable to assemble a team for the 2:00 p.m. game today.  The game is cancelled.  We were able to cobble together a team of eight (with a player from the 12U team) when the game was scheduled at 9:30 a.m. today.  Once the game was moved to 2:00 p.m. today, we lost two more players.  Late yesterday and last evening we were not able to assemble players from younger rec teams.

As always, this message is being posted to the team Web site located at http://PelhamDodgers.blogspot.com

Subject:    URGENT Message - Sunday Game Has Been Moved and Is Now at 2:00 p.m.

Dear Team:

About five minutes ago I received notification that our Sunday game versus the Panthers has been moved to Rye Neck High School in Mamaroneck at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday  (For those of you who knew that I was going to be missing my Son's Confirmation on Sunday morning for the game, this is apparently a field issue -- I had nothing to do with it!)

Now I need to reconfirm with everyone to determine players' availability at the new time and location.  Please plan to have your player at the field by 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.  The address of the High School is:

Rye Neck High School
300 Hornridge Road
Mamaroneck, NY  10543

Rye Neck High School is right off the Boston Post Road opposite Commerce Bank as you travel through Mamaroneck.

Please reply as soon as possible.

Subject:    IMPORTANT:  Saturday Game Time Moved; Need to Know Availability for Sat. & Sun. Games as Soon as Possible

Dear Team:

Apparently there is some form of fundraiser scheduled on Glover Field late in the day Saturday.  Consequently, the league has moved up our game on Saturday to begin at 12:00 Noon -- NOT 4:30 p.m. as previously scheduled.  Consequently, I need to hear from everyone as soon as possible regarding your player's availability for Saturday's 12:00 noon game at Glover Field and also for Sunday's 9:30 a.m. game versus the Panthers at Flint Park.  Please plan to have your player at Glover Field by 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.  Please plan to have your player at Flint Park in Larchmont by 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.  If there are transportation problems for any players on Sunday, please let me know.

Please reply as soon as possible because it is conceivable that we will need to recruit players for one or both of the games if we do not have enough.

Here are directions to Flint Park for Sunday (the field is at the very back near the beautiful turf field):

Take I-95 North. Exit at Exit 17, "Chatsworth Avenue, Larchmont". Make a right at the stop sign at the end of the exit ramp onto Madison Avenue, which becomes Myrtle Boulevard. Make a right at the traffic light onto Chatsworth Avenue. Continue 1/2 of a mile. Make a left at the traffic light onto Boston Post Road (US-1 North). Continue 1/10 of a mile. Make a right onto Bronson Avenue. Continue to the end. Make a left onto Locust Avenue, which leads into the entrance to Flint Park. This is the baseball field at the far back end of Flint Park.

Subject: Bad News - No Game Sunday; White Plains Mets Cannot Put Together a Team

Dear Mothers:

After three telephone calls and myriad e-mails, the White Plains Mets have now informed me that they cannot put together the required eight players (or even seven players) and cannot play tomorrow. As beautiful as the weather is now (and as beautiful as it is expected to be tomorrow), it looks like our team will have an unintended off-weekend due to the rain today and to the White Plains Mets tomorrow.

Apparently the Baseball Gods heard the pleas of many of the team's Moms! I heard from almost all of our beloved team Moms who asked -- quite rightly -- why games were scheduled on one of the year's most sacrosanct, hallowed and respected holidays . . . (We fathers and sons genuflect accordingly. . . . . )

To all Moms: I note that I had utterly and absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with scheduling . . . . . . . . . . . . .
To all Dads and the players: I admit that I was looking forward to playing tomorrow and expected all Moms and Dads to be seated along the foul lines full of filial pride as our progeny massacred the hapless Mets.

I'm sorry, Moms, but I feel compelled to disclose that, despite the holiday, our team was able to put together 15 excited players for the game tomorrow!

Happy, happy, happy, happy Mother's Day!

Subject: Glover Varsity Baseball Field Closed Due to Field Conditions - Saturday Game Rained Out

Dear Team:

I just spoke with Mike Mutti who consulted with John Nesi at Glover. The Varsity Baseball field has been closed and our game today is a rainout. I have just spoken to the opposing coach who was trying to drive back to New York from D.C. to get here in time for the game.

Tomorrow's game is still on. The opposing coach for the Mets says they are having the same trouble we had last Sunday putting together enough players for a team, but they have just enough to play.

We have games scheduled this Saturday (May 8) and Sunday (May 9) at 3:00 p.m. at Glover Field.  I would like to get meaningful batting practice and infield / outfield practice in before both games, so it is important for players to plan to be at the field promptly by 2:00 p.m. both games.  We are the home team in both games and are playing the White Plains A's on Saturday and the White Plains Mets on Sunday.

I am very proud of the team!  Today’s 13 to 5 victory over the Panthers was truly a total team victory.  The team produced throughout the entire lineup at the plate, ran monumentally well on the basepaths and generally played thoughtful baseball.

Dear Team:

I know how hard every player fought today.  The team produced today throughout the entire lineup.  What fun!  (Still, I know, a 7 to 7 tie is not the same as a crushing win. . . . . )

We have yet another chance for a crushing win -- tomorrow morning!  Here are the directions to the field.  Please plan to have your player there by 9 a.m.

Team!  Please!  If you have told me your player will be there or “may” be there, please be there or tell me now.  We have moved  heaven and earth to let our available players play tomorrow morning!  However, we welcome everyone even if they become available only at the last moment.  Just tell me, please, as soon as you can.  E-Mail that hits my Blackberry on the field is fine, but please tell me as early as you know.

I NOW REALIZE THAT RIDES MAY MAKE A DIFFERENCE. . . . . WE WILL GET ANY PLAYER WHO WANTS TO PLAY TO THE FIELD.  Don’t think twice about asking for a ride.  Every player wants his teammates to make it to the game no matter what!  Please tell me as soon as possible and we will get your player to and from the game safely!!!!
